My Mechanic

Karl is in Texas right now, working on vehicles and spending time with his parents.  It is so great that he is able to be there.  The car Kelli was driving (the Civic) was making a horrible sound, and as Karl researched it, he realized it was a bearing in the transmission.  Taking it to a shop would cost over $1000, possibly close to $2000, which is more than the car is even worth.  But it's actually just a $30 part!  The cost comes in the labor of removing the transmission to replace the part.  The Lord gave Karl an amazing price on a ticket ($650!), so he took it!  There is also another car (the Accord) there that needed repairing after a fender-bender.  So he could work on both.

Karl was able to repair the first one with minimal problems and with the huge help of Kurt and his dad.  It's running fine now!  Kelli has it back at college now!  He even disconnected the "demon alarm" that had plagued Kelli last semester - going off at all hours, going off even while she was driving!

Now he's working on the car that had a smashed-in front end!  Before he got there, he ordered parts off the internet to trade out.  It was really incredible to watch.  Then he got there and started taking it apart.  Then came the bad news - the motor had been damaged (we didn't think it had been).  So, he was off to find a new motor!  He found one in Austin, and immediately began working to put that in.  That meant taking off the wheels, the axle, dropping the transmission, exhaust pipe, and disconnecting all of the hoses and wires and connections!  The new motor is now in the car, and now he just has to put it all back together!  He hopes to start it tomorrow (Friday) and drive it to do some shopping on Saturday.  He is happy about it all, even with the extra work, because (1) it's all going together (by God's grace!) and (2) it's still cheaper than buying a new-to-us car!  This is Kelli's car, the one she really enjoys driving.  So he's working hard to get it back to her.  And all of this is at a cost under what it would've cost to fix the Civic's transmission, including the cost of the flight!  Thank you, Lord!

I am constantly amazed at the gifts and talents that the Lord has given to Karl.  He's a grease monkey!  And he does it to serve others and bless others.  He flew halfway around the world to fix a car (two, actually!) for his daughter!  I am so thankful for Karl.  I'm thankful for his servant heart.  God has blessed me (and others around me!) so much.
